Lot 206 – Style of John Constable (1776 – 1837) – A Pair of Small Sketches, Landscapes, one with a cottage, amongst trees, with figures and waterfowl, on a path, the other showing trees, a water coarse, and a small mill,or cottage, oil on thin board/card, each inscribed verso ” a sketch finished as one painting, by J.C., 16″, one also inscribed ” 21, Lower Regent Street”, below and indistinct signature, the back panel of each bears a trade label ” G.*. Raim, Carver, Gilder, and Picture Frame Manufacturer, 13, Marylebone Lane, Five Doors From Wigmore Street”, 14cm x 23cm, in gilt and gesso moulded frames, 17cm x 27cm, some small areas of paint loss, and loss of moulding to frames. Together with a book of Constable oil sketches, by John Baskett.
