The antique furniture market has been very selective for some years now, but, top quality pieces can still command a healthy price, even when they need a bit of tender loving care. In our most recent sale, at the Ibbett Mosely Auction Rooms, the catalogue included an Early 18th Century Walnut Veneered Card Table. It was of the fold-over top variety, with a concertina action, to support the top when the table is in the open position. Such tables can have a single gateleg, double gateleg, or telescopic action, but, the concertina is the top notch one to have on these pieces. The table in this sale needed quite a lot of restoration, and had already been worked on during the Victorian period, as well. During the viewing days, several suitable buyers had a close look at it, and on the day, itself, there were bidders online, via the Easy Live bidding platform, on the telephone, and bidding in the room. It sold for £6,000 to one of the top London dealers of Fine English Furniture.
