Lot 264 – A 1996 Jules Rimet Cup (World Cup) opening night champagne package comprising: a vintage bottle of 1966 Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin Champagne, a menu and table plan for the supper held on the occasion of the opening match of the 1966 competition, in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II, and the Duke of Edinburgh, at the Empire Stadium, Wembley, Monday 11th of July 1966, together with a rosette badge, a.f., a stained wood box, also containing the bottle stopper and corkscrew, and an addendum announcing the death of Mr J.H.W Mears, the Chairman of the F.A. who died on the 30th of June 1966. This may have been gifted to a Mr G.W. Dean, who was a guest at the dinner. Box 36cm wide x 11cm high.
